Can anyone give me tips about Easter Island (Chile)?

It is called the Belly Button of the World. It´s where those hugs statues (Moai) stand.

I went there on 2001. It is a fascinating place. First you have to catch a plane to Santiago to make the connection to Easter Island, which literally is in the middle of the Pacific ocean! It is not a big island and as there is only one flight coming in every week and one going out, people from the island get to know you and even greet you when they see you walking by! I stayed at Hotel Hanga Roa which was ok but now they have opened Explora hotel which is much, much better. Dont expect air conditioning as there is none in the island. However, these two hotels (there's a third one and some hostels but cant remember their names) are very nice. The best beach is Anakena, beautiful waters and it's like paradise. There are several things to see there apart from the Moais, there are two major volcanoes there (ranu raraku is the best) and they will take you in the tour. Handicrafts are very expensive, I guess the people there live out of tourism and they might be a bit exagerrated
in their prices. Food is ok, although I found an excellent restaurant called La Maison du paicheur whichis owned by a french guy who is a chef and stayed there after falling in love with a woman there. Overall, it;s an experience which you'll never forget! I took some dance lessons from one of the girls there, wonderful polynesian dance!

Not very good food, nice people, nice dance, nice hostels and hotels near the beach.
