Monopoly Here and Now World One of the 2008 Best Christmas Gifts

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Welcome to the exciting new world of Monopoly. Every time you travel around the board of the Monopoly Here and Now World Edition, you also travel through six continents. If you're shopping for a board game that will truly delight your Christmas gift recipients, this new take on a long-time classic is sure to please.

This 21st-century version of the popular classic board game keeps the very best ingredients of classic Monopoly while adding thrilling new twists to the game play. The utilities--water works and the electric company--are now hip new renewable energy sources (solar and wind). The oh-that's-so-industrial-revolution railroads now include rail, air travel, ocean cruises and space travel. Banking is now effortless thanks to digital electronic banking that keeps track of your transactions.

The electronic banker doesn't exactly replace a human banker, but it sure makes their job easier. Shove a couple of AA batteries into the banker (um, the electronic one) and it's ready for business. Monopoly Here and Now World can begin when everyone picks a moving and a credit card.

The electronic banking unit really makes game play simple. Some people (like me) can find that Monopoly banking is somewhat of a chore, but the new electronic system makes everything easy, even fun. The banking unit also rides herd on all the wheeling and dealing that goes on when someone lands on a property they don't want. It even includes a random auction timer to add even more excitement and chance.

The game comes with six randomly selected mover pieces that bring even more international flair to this hot Christmas gift. Although your game will only come with six moving pieces, there's a total of 24 mover types available (I sense an eBay opportunity here). You could get any six of the following: Kangaroo, Koala, Surfer, Boomerangs, London Cab, Pretzel, Matador, Windmill, Canadian Mountie, Cowboy Hat, Baseball Glove, Nascar, Inca Mask, Easter Island Moai, Football, Inca Statue, Safari Hat, Egyptian Head Mask, African Mask, Camel, Chinese Dragon, Tuk-Tuk, Russian Dolls, or a Sumo Wrestler.

The cities on the board read like a rock star's world tour. Your properties are located in Taipei, Tokyo, Barcelona, Athens, Istanbul, Toronto, Rome, Shanghai, Vancouver, Sydney, New York, London, Beijing, Hong Kong, Paris, Belgrade, Cape Town and more.

Monopoly Here and Now World teaches and informs the players during game play. The community chest and chance cards include a selection of international facts and holiday festivals. Every property on the board includes stunning photography from around the world.

Let's be honest. When the presents are being opened on Christmas morning, the board games may not be the first things played with. But this Monopoly Here and Now World Edition will be a long-term favorite even after Christmas has come and gone. Every family should have one (or more) Monopoly games in the house. Whether this is your first game or a new addition to the family, it's sure to please everyone.

Top Ten Travel Wonders of South America

Image : http://www.flickr.com

South America holds an extraordinary collection of travel wonders including both natural and cultural experiences. With the world's greatest rain forest, the world's most spectacular waterfall, the world's highest waterfall, the world's greatest river and sophisticated historic cultures, there is something in this great continent for everyone.
It isn't possible to nominate a top ten travel list without omitting a number of key sights. Here is my list. How many have you seen?

1. Machu Picchu and Inca Trail (Peru)
Bordered by thick forest, accessed by a famous trek and perched on a mountain top, the exceptional Incan stonework and the richness of its religious sites makes Machu Picchu a truly cultural experience in the most beautiful of settings..

2. Iguazu Falls (Argentina / Brazil)
The sheer dimension of this natural miracle and its 250+ cascades thundering over an eighty yard cliff ensures that Iguazu Falls are the most mesmerizing waterfalls in the world.

3. Galapagos Islands (Ecuador)
Darwin's laboratory with the unusual varieties of wildlife including a flightless cormorant, giant tortoises and iguanas that have adapted to this volcanic barren land offers one of greatest wildlife shows on Earth.

4. Amazon River and Rain Forest
Roughly the size of the continental United States, spending time on the river or walking the forest trails of the Amazon basin is one of most treasured experiences in life.

5. Easter Island (Chile)
In testament to an isolated past civilization on this remote Pacific island, the moai (stone statues) stand proudly and majestically in groups around the island.

6. Patagonia / Torres del Paine (Argentina / Chile)
Vivid blue lakes, tumbling cascades and saw-edged mountain peaks provide an uplifting, almost spiritual outdoor experience in the far south of the American continent.

7. Andes
The backbone of the South America continent with its jagged snow-capped mountains are the second highest mountain range in the world and offer some great hiking and climbing.

8. Angel Falls (Venezuela)
These falls tumble over half a mile into remote Venezuela forest. The journey there is as adventurous as sighting the falls themselves.

9. Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)
The golden beaches, the raucous Carnaval fiesta and the glorious panoramas from the Christ the Redeemer statue and Sugar Loaf mountain makes Rio the most popular city in South America.

10. Nazca Lines (Peru)
Mysterious giant animals (100 to 200 yards across) including a spider, a hummingbird and a condor, along with unusual geometric designs were marked into the dry and dusty Peruvian desert by an ancient culture. They are best explored in a small plane.
South America has a rich selection of travel wonders and experiences from superb natural settings of forests, glaciers and waterfalls to culturally-rich and expressive cities. Travel with an open mind and enjoy this fascinating and diverse continent.

Cierra's Rapa Nui - La Isla De Pascua (Easter Island)

Pictures (I found on several websites)!! I put it together for a presentation on Rapa Nui aka Easter Island in my Spanish class. The song is by a famous group from Rapa Nui called Matato'a.

Journey deep into the ancient world of Egyptian Pyramids, Stonehenge, Balbek in Lebanon and the giant heads of Easter Island. Are we to believe, that thousands of years ago, before the advent of modern machinery, Egyptian workers transferred the massive blocks used to build the Great Pyramids across northern Africa using wooden rollers or was extraterrestrial technology handed down to primitive man thousands of years ago to build these massive structures or did 'ancient astronauts' ie, aliens build the magnificent pyramids, mystical Stonehenge and the giant 'moai' heads? In the absence of man-made proof to the contrary, some UFO theorists find this idea very compelling.

Easter Island Moai Head Sculpture Pink Granite

The history of Easter Island is rich and controversial. Its inhabitants have endured famines, epidemics, civil war, slave raids and colonialism, and near deforestation; their population has declined precipitously more than once. They have left a cultural legacy that has brought them fame disproportionate to their population.

Fatu Hiva - Kahuna Kawentzmann

available at www.itunes.com/kahunakawentzmann Today Im aware that the tracks name giving island is actually spelled Fatuhiva, but anyway this (Fatu Hiva) is the spelling you can read at iTunes, Amazon or on the CD cover of the album. The island footage is of course Rapa Nui, or the european name Easter Island. Famous for its big rock statues called Moai in the native polynesian dialect. The footage is public domain and since it reminded me a lot of Thor Heyerdahl (author of Kon-Tiki) who wrote books about Fatuhiva as well as Rapa Nui. Fatuhiva is closer to the center of Polynesia, thus closer to what has become known as Tiki. However in recent years and in Heyerdahls days the Moais have become icons of Tiki Pop Culture. The Exotica style of my recording celebrates the mysterious, manifold and obscure cultural sources, seemingly embodied in the giant stone idols os Easter Island. I recorded the track originally for the forthcoming DVD of Tiki. The music was heavily inspired by the likes of Les Baxter composer of Quiet Village (made famous by Martin Denny) and soundtracks in the 1950s and 1960s,

Easter Island, Part 4 - TONGARIKI

An island where great heads and bodies carved in volcanic rock stand guard along the coast. Easter Island - home of the Moai. We walk around the base of the 15 Moai at Tongariki relatively quickly, as the island tour groups start to arrive after we parked up (added to the cruise ship passengers that might soon turn up!). The wind was again, quite strong and unfortunately, the sound has drowned out half the commantary....not a bad thing, some might say :) Still at least it was warm.......

EASTER ISLAND Rapa Nui Chile

Rapa Nui Around 3500 kilometres west of the mainland of Chile is the Pacific island of Rapa Nui, otherwise known as Easter Island. 3 million years ago, volcanic activity created this small island of lava that covers an area of 160 square kilometres. Rapa Nui is one of the most remote places on Earth, and its closest neighbor is Pitcairn Island more than 2000 kilometres west. Since its discovery by Dutch sailors on Easter Sunday, 1722, there has been a great deal of interest in the island. In spite of its growing tourist trade the island has retained an air of tranquility and is ideal for nature lovers and those interested in its history. Theories abound as to who were the first settlers to arrive on this tiny island, but scientists believe that its first inhabitants originated from Eastern Polynesia. But the islands main focal point are its gigantic and mysterious stone monuments that date back to late pre-historic times. These mighty statues have always stimulated a certain amount of fantasy as the island was thought to be part of a lost continent. Nearly all the mighty figures, known as Moai, originated from the slopes of the Rano Raraku Volcano. Its Tuff stone was an ideal sculpting material and its soft texture made it possible for the islanders to create tall, massive statues out of the rock within only a few weeks. There are still almost 400 individually crafted Moai figures on the island. During the 19th century slave traders arrived and took with them thousands ...

A Historic Journey

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Castles, Monasteries, Pyramids, Forts & Ruins! We live in a world where each country has an interesting tale of the past of how man evolved from cave dwellers to maharajas, of civilizations that are now extinct, of great loves, of warriors of old, of rites and rituals and more.

When you travel to India, you can visit palaces and forts that tell a tale of maharajas, princedoms and freedom struggles. If you head to South America, you will see the remains of the Aztec and Incas civilizations that are now extinct; in Egypt, the pharos and mummies; in Greece, the pantheon; and in Italy, the coliseum.

Each palace, pyramid and pantheon with their amazing architecture and detailed art represents the civilizations that shouldn't be forgotten. There are thousands of places across the world that are steeped in rich history and are awe-inspiring. Selecting a place to visit is not easy, so here are some must see historic destinations from across the world. Please keep in mind each country has numerous places of historic significance and this article just lists few.

Parthenon, Greece
Parthenon is one of the four greatest masterpieces of classical Greek art situated at the Acropolis in Greece. Built in the 5th century BC by the architects Ictinus and Callicrates under the supervision of the sculptor Phidias, this ancient temple is dedicated to the Goddess Athena. It is a rectangular shape structure that is generally considered to be the culmination of the development of the Doric order. It made of brilliant white marble, surrounded by 46 great columns, roofed with tiles, and housed a nearly 40 foot tall statue of the goddess Athena. The statue, known as Athena Promachos, Athena the Champion, was made of wood, gold and ivory and could be seen from a distance of many miles.

Today, the Parthenon is a testament of the civilizations, myths and religions that flourished for over 1, 000 years.

Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
The Pyramids of Giza are over 3,000 years old. There are 3 pyramids of varying sizes. The largest pyramid is known as the Great Pyramid was originally 146 meters (438 feet) high but time and weather has worn it down by 10 meters (30 feet). It is made up of approximately two million blocks of limestone with each weighing more than two tons, each of its sides are carefully positioned to point north, south, east, and west and the bottom of the pyramid has sides that measure 227 meters (681 feet) in length. Te Great Pyramid was built by the Pharaoh Khufu and once held his body.

The Second Pyramid belongs to the Pharaoh Khafre. It is 3 meters shorter then Khufu's and stands on the northern side of the Giza Plateau. The Third Pyramid (Menkaure) is the smallest of the three pyramids. It is not as detailed as the other two pyramids and stands 66 meters high.

The pyramids are a marvel of human engineering. They are aligned to the stars and the solstices and contain vast chambers that still haven't been opened.

Easter Island, Chile
Easter Island or the Isla de Pascua is located out in the Pacific Ocean and special territory of Chile. The island is surrounded by monumental statues, known as Moai statues, which were symbols of the spiritual and political power of Peruvian civilization. These gigantic and amazingly carved heads are the only thing left of culture that once lived here.

Taj Mahal, India
In the 1600s, Emperor Shah Jahan built the Taj Mahal in memory of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. This white marble tomb is located in Agra, India and is considered to be one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture, a style that combines elements from Persian, Turkish, Indian, and Islamic architectural styles.

Manchu Pirochu, Peru
Located in Southern Peru, Machu Picchu was a sacred place of Inca civilization. It is known as the "Lost City of the Incas." It lies on top of a mountain and is only accessible by train or 4-day trek.. The Machu Picchu ruins reveal a self contained city with temples, baths, houses etc. Many of these structures were carved from the mountain granite and are still in great form. One such structure is the Intihuatana stone, which was used as an astronomical observatory and is an extremely precise marker of dates and celestial periods.

Statue of Christ Redeemer, Brazil
Brazil's most recognizable landmark is the statue of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer). This statue is located at Rio de Janeiro and rises almost 130 feet from the ground.

Tikal, Guatemala
Tikal is a Mayan city-state located in northern Guatemala. It was one of the largest urban centres of the Maya civilization and today, is one of the best-preserved historical sites. The amazing and monumental architecture reflects the glory that the Maya kingdom had in the past.

Stonehenge, United Kingdom
The Stonehenge is located near Salisbury in England. The stones of this 3,000 plus year old megalithic structure come all the way from Wales.

Great Wall of China, China
The Great Wall of China also known as "long Wall of 10,000 Li" in China extends about 8,850 kilometers (5,500 miles). It is not a continuous wall but is a collection of short walls that often follow the crest of hills on the southern edge of the Mongolian plain.

Easter Island, Part 2 - AHU TE PITO KURA

Arfur and Shelly Visit an island that they have been wanting to see for many years. An island shrouded in mystery. An island where great heads and bodies carved in volcanic rock stand guard along the coast. Easter Island - home of the Moai. This island is also known as 'Rapa Nui' in Tahitian and 'Isla de Pascua' in Spanish and belongs to Chile. This clip shows us visiting AHU TE PITO KURA, which is the resting place of the biggest Moai on Easter Island (around 10-11m tall). As was the fate with all of the Moai here, this huge specimin lays on the ground after being toppled from it's Ahu (platform of stone). All of the Moai that are seen standing on Easter Island now, have been re-erected at some time in the past (and repaired as necessary!). Also at this location is the TE PITO KURA itself (Navel of the Earth/Light) which is basically a large rounded stone with four smaller stones and a short, circular stone wall, apparently shipped from Tahiti. Unfortunately, whilst Shelly was reading the details of this particular location from the Lonely Planet Guide, the wind was almost drowning her out....sorry about that....

The Mystery of Easter Island

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Easter Island was first contacted by the western world by Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen in 1722. It was named Easter Island because it was discovered on Easter. It is officially a territory of Chile, located in the South Pacific Ocean about 2000 miles from Chile's west coast. Easter Island is probably most famous for its 887 gigantic statues, called Moai. What is less known, but equally fascinating, is the rich cultural history and mythology of these islands.

Archaeologists have long disputed when Easter Island was first inhabited by humans. Estimates range anywhere from 300 CE to 1200 CE, but the general consensus is somewhere between 700-1000 CE. These estimates are similar to the estimates of first known inhabitants of Hawaii. At this time in history, seafaring people from Indonesia were colonizing islands all over the Pacific ocean.

Because Easter Islanders are descended from the Polynesian culture, their mythology shares many characteristics with it. However, because of the island's extreme geographic isolation (the nearest inhabited island is more than 2000km away), their mythology evolved in unique ways. For example, they believed that their people came from a mythical homeland, which they called Hiva. Most Polynesian cultures also believe this, but they usually call this land Hawaiki. Despite their origins from the Polynesian islands, the people of Easter Island believed Hiwi lay in the east, where the sun rises.

Easter Island mythology proceeded through two distinct stages. The first was an ancestor worship system. The Moai statues were erected as a tribute to past important members of the group. These statues represent a very impressive creative and intellectual feat. The statues were often 30 feet tall and weighed more than 75 tons. They were almost always carved out of volcanic rock and were erected on the shores or the island, facing inwards. The inward orientation of the statues is thought to represent the ancestors watching over the island inhabitants from the edge of the sea. Like most island cultures, Easter Island's mythology consisted of a significant marine component.

In the 19th century, a civil war erupted amongst the Easter Islanders. A new group, which anthropologists have dubbed the Bird-Man Cult, rose to power after several years of a fierce war with the traditional Moai group. During this time, almost all of the Moai statues were toppled. The Bird-Man Cult worshiped a god called Makemake, who was the creator of humanity and the world.

In recent times, peace has returned to the island, and the Moai statues are in the process of being restored and re-erected by the island's inhabitants. Easter Island is undoubtedly one of the strangest and most fascinating places on earth. Let's do our part to keep our earth beautiful by utilizing our kitchen garbage cans more often. A great choice is a stainless steel garbage can. We don't want America to become destroyed as Easter Island was.

Opening Shot test

Hi Guys, Finally some activity from little old me, I've been pretty caught up in all kinds of commercial work again, but this test shot of the opening scene I did manage to produce in the late hours. The idea is to start out mysterious and show the remaining island vegetation in the most gracious but fragile way possible. I'm aware the trees wibble to much, and I want to replace the particles with animated fireflies, but that is all for later concern. I just wanted to share this little test with you because I think it's quite pretty.

[NGC] Explorer - Easter Island Underworld_clip4.mp4

On legendary Easter Island, a team of National Geographic explorers and scientists undertakes a groundbreaking expedition: to attempt a first-ever mapping of the vast cave system beneath this enigmatic isle. We ride along as the team rappels down sheer cliffs, crawls through narrow labyrinths, and even dons SCUBA gear to complete their task. Deep beneath the earth, in caverns that have been forgotten for centuries, these adventurers discover human remains and telltale artifacts. Together, these finds reveal an astonishing history that is brought to life in startling re-enactments. It is a tale of ingenious achievement, environmental catastrophe, and brutal social breakdown one that remains a haunting lesson for all of us, similarly trapped on an island planet of our own. MYSTERIES OF EASTER ISLAND: Easter Island has always been a mystery. Scientists and explorers know that it was once inhabited, but there is little evidence as to what happened to these original populations. Was it conflict? A lack of resources? A natural disaster? The famous giant moai statues give the island an eerie, lonely atmosphere. But these statues are not the only mysteries contained within the island's history: Recent research suggests there may have been close to 16 million palm trees on Easter Island before they disappeared sometime before 1722 when Europeans arrived. Pollen analysis and seed shells indicate the original palm forest included trees similar to a Chilean palm that can grow up to ...
